Monthly Reporting

An Australian-owned company with over 1bn in revenue was spending valuable time creating over 60 monthly reports for their clients. Without a centralised data platform, these reports were produced manually and frequently contained errors and were delivered late or not at all.

The challenge

Blackbook was engaged to meet with stakeholders, end-users and functional managers to understand requirements and get to the root cause of issues being faced by the organisation. A large focus was placed on designing a better user experience, improving data accuracy and timeliness, and retaining existing skillsets and capabilities where possible.

The solution

A comprehensive data landscape audit and health check was carried out to profile the quantity and quality of data sources. Alongside this activity, Blackbook established a data quality governance plan to address accuracy and turnaround times.

The outcomes

Blackbook worked with the client to understand their strategic goals and determined the optimal architecture and services to achieve these goals. The new centralised data warehouse was built on Microsoft Azure using Azure Synapse Analytics and the solution leveraged Power BI Shared Datasets. Overall, this enabled self-service reporting for the company’s Tier-1 clients, and paginated reports were produced for Tier-2 clients.
